Happy Thai New Year!! Well, camp is officially over and all the girls at the orphanage went home to visit family friends for a few weeks so this week we will be painting their room before they come home! However, this past 3 days has been what is called Songkran- Thai New Year. They operate on a Buddhist calendar so the year is now 2563. They celebrate this by having water fights in the street, wearing tye die shirts, and covering themselves in baby powder. So, we decided to join the fun! Saturday we went to Chiang Rai to explore the night market and we got soaking wet and also got to throw some water at people driving by. Yesterday I had a water fight with two of the girls that are still here, Natnaree and Samo. They are in the picture below. Today however, we drove around town in the back of the pickup truck and threw more water as well as go to the pool to swim. All in all it was a wonderful new year and a great fun way to cool off in this heat.. it’s 101 degrees out! Yikes!
